User sets $1 monthly Claude spend cap, gets billed $515.76 — Anthropic says it's not a hard limit
friarswalker · reddit · 2026-10-22
A Reddit user who set Claude's monthly spend limit to $1 to protect prepaid credits found their usage page reading "$515.76 of $1 this month." Support explained that cap enforcement can lag and in-flight requests can finish above the limit, admitted the "up to this cap" wording reads like a hard ceiling, but refused a refund. The PSA: don't rely on that setting to protect your prepaid balance.
