Speculative decoding: a small draft model proposes k tokens at low cost
cneuralnetwork · x · 2026-10-22
Part three introduces the draft model:
- With target distribution p and draft distribution q, the draft model proposes k tokens x₁→x₂→…→xₖ;
- Since q is much cheaper to run, generating candidates costs far less than producing them with p;
- These tokens are not final yet — verification comes next.
