Ex-OpenAI researcher's hot take: NYC trails SF by 4-7 months in AI, London 12+
jefrankle · x · 2026-10-22
Jared Frankle of Anthropic amplified a viral take arguing that as AI cycles shrink to 2-3 months, a geographic gap is widening: the Peninsula lags SF by 2-3 months, NYC/LA by 4-7 months, London by 12+, because much of the experiential knowledge about building and deploying these systems spreads over dinner conversations and late-night debugging. Frankle countered that NYC has a huge unfair advantage for building AI that's actually useful to real enterprises and everyday people, since his friends there work in industries besides AI.
