Thore Graepel, co-creator of AlphaGo, came out of stealth with Metis Reasoning. In an interview with etn, he recounted witnessing Move 37 live: nine-dan professional Michael Redmond first gasped "that must be a mistake," causing panic, then nodded in awe — relief mixed with the realization they were watching a machine's first genuinely creative contribution. Graepel also argues LLMs may never be truly creative.
