Insurer portals blocked their data-center bots, so they moved automation into the user's browser

A dev team shipping for a PE-backed prior-auth platform shared a war story: the client's old automation ran as data-center bots, which insurer portals flagged and blocked at login, forcing coordinators back to manual submission.
Their fix moved the automation into the coordinator's own browser, reusing the already-logged-in session. When something unexpected appeared on the portal, the coordinator could take over mid-run without losing the case. A POC worked on a live insurer portal in April; production shipped in June. The client's CEO later said they couldn't have served their biggest customer without it.
The client eventually brought the extension in-house — feedback took a day plus 3-4 days to turn around, while their own team could do it in half a day.
