Chrome DevTools adds Ads panel showing per-script CPU and network cost of ads
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-10-22
Chrome DevTools' October update (Chrome 153/154) adds an Application > Ads panel with experimental CrUX ad metrics: total CPU and network usage by ads, a table of every ad iframe's resource consumption, a list of ad scripts, and highlighting of all ads on the page. A sample on spiegel.de shows 32 ad iframes burning 18.91s of CPU and 1.7MB of network.
The release also brings DevTools MCP server improvements for coding agents: a --no-javascript-evaluation flag to inspect pages without running scripts, on-demand source maps to cut memory use, configurable file system roots, heap snapshot querying, plus soft navigation support and CPU tier overrides in the Performance panel.
