OpenTac: Open Full-Stack Ecosystem for 3D Tactile Sensing on Any Robot
_krishna_murthy · x · 2026-10-22
A collaboration across five Johns Hopkins labs with MIT presents OpenTac, an open full-stack ecosystem for customizable, scalable 3D tactile sensing (CoRL 2026). It includes a flexible piezoresistive sensor with TPU bumps sensing both normal and shear force; OpenTac-CAD, which turns 2D outlines, 3D surfaces, or natural-language descriptions into fabrication-ready tactile skin designs; OpenTac-Sim in MuJoCo with geometry-aware cross-sensor observation transfer; and OpenTac-Xampling adaptive sampling capturing contacts up to 1k fps.
