YC F26 startup Latent reads model internals to catch hallucinations at 530x lower cost
ycombinator · x · 2026-10-22
Latent (YC F26) launched an "AI lie detector" that reads a model's internal state as it writes, holding made-up answers before customers see them.
Key claims: years of interpretability research show models often "know" they're about to be wrong. Latent checks answers 103x faster than a judge model (no added latency on your own model), at $0.02 vs $10.61 per 1,000 answers (530x cheaper, free on your own model). Using Latent to triage a judge cuts the judge bill 10x while improving flag precision from 82% to 93%. Flagged answers can trigger fallback text, route to a stronger model, or go to a review queue.
