Theory: Apps will collapse into contacts — the most natural abstraction for agents
signulll · x · 2026-10-22
signulll argues today's apps may degrade into simple contacts on your device. A contact is the natural abstraction for an agent: it already has identity, persistence, conversation history, familiarity, and an implicit social contract.
The messaging layer gives you discovery (no apps to find or download), relationship continuity, attention control (mute/ignore/stop), async workflows, on-demand initiation, and bidirectionality by default. Psychologically, agents living on the same surface as people makes the relationship feel natural and intimate.
