Economist Proposes Reviewers Disclose AI Prompts to End Referee Report Distrust
paulnovosad · x · 2026-10-22
Reacting to concerns that genAI-assisted referee reports foment distrust, economist Paul Novosad proposes a concrete fix: reviewers paste their prompt at the bottom of the report, so authors know with 0% confusion which ideas are the reviewer's and which are the AI's.
He also states his broader view on AI writing: it is acceptable only if the reader understands they are reading AI writing — otherwise it is deception, and deception is bad.
