Ex-Goldman CISO: AI tools for CISOs must deliver insights, not vanilla dashboards
philvenables · x · 2026-10-21
Security veteran Phil Venables writes about what AI-powered CISO tooling should look like. He notes a wave of startups and incumbents building CISO tools, with quality all over the map — some designed from the ground up, others legacy GRC tools with AI sprinkled on top, which can even magnify the original tool's flaws.
He argues tooling needs differ by scale: small organizations may want a jack-of-all-trades tool covering SecOps, IAM, compliance, vulnerability and third-party risk; but CISOs of large enterprises don't live in dashboards — they need curated insights and decision support grounded in real data and evidence, answering hard questions like enterprise resilience.
