Claude Code Max 5x Users Report Sudden Massive Spike in Usage Consumption
pip4show · ghdev · 2026-10-19
A developer filed an issue on the claude-code repo reporting that since mid-October 2026, usage consumption on the Max 5x subscription has spiked dramatically despite no workflow changes.
- About 8 hours after the weekly allowance reset on Oct 19, 37% of the weekly quota and 90% of the 5-hour session quota were already consumed; a simple screenshot task ate roughly 30% of a session.
- Two project sessions: Opus 5.5 with 120.4k output tokens and 20.3M cache reads; Opus 5 with 56.4k output and 67.3M cache reads — both at 97% cache hit rate.
- 95% of usage in the last 24h came from contexts over 150k tokens; the author says rapid depletion appears across multiple independent projects.
