Yelp's AI assistant may call AI receptionists — who verifies the answer?
fortiplus84 · reddit · 2026-10-21
Yelp launched an AI assistant that calls restaurants to check wait times, while Yelp also sells AI receptionists to those same restaurants — creating a possible AI-calls-AI loop. The author uses this to explore agent-to-agent reliability: if the receiving AI misunderstands, the calling AI may accept a wrong answer as valid. Open design questions include cross-verification with a second source, disclosing when you're talking to an automated system, and where human oversight remains necessary. Notably, the author says no such failure has occurred at Yelp yet.
