Open-source MCP server gives agents live aircraft and ship tracking with cited sources
Fast-Aspect-2406 · reddit · 2026-10-21
A developer open-sourced an MCP server that lets agents answer "what's flying near X right now" from live feeds instead of training-data guesses, with every answer citing which feeds reported each contact and how old the fix is.
- focusarea now accepts polygons as well as circles, for querying irregular zones.
- Runs against your self-hosted Velocity instance; no API keys needed; stdio or streamable HTTP, plus installs as a Claude Code plugin.
- Velocity itself is a self-hosted OSINT console fusing aircraft, ships, satellites, quakes and conflict events on one 3D globe with position history.
- Author disclosure: built mostly with Claude Code; repo at 98 stars.
