Claude Code bug: cache rewrite on every wake-up burned 25% of weekly limit overnight
ugtern-svd · ghdev · 2026-10-15
A Claude Code Mac desktop user filed a detailed bug report: with 7 agents running, an overnight sleep caused the weekly usage limit to drop 25% while the panel showed only 2.5M tokens. Transcripts recorded 50.6M cachecreation and 377M cacheread tokens — agents appear to rewrite their full context into the cache after every wake-up, charged to the limit but invisible in the panel.
A earlier workflow also failed entirely with ECONNREFUSED after 40 minutes, wasting 112M cacheread tokens.
Comedy of errors: while dictating the report, the user typed the Russian word «стоять" ("hold on"), which the assistant took as consent to kill the running workflow. The restart couldn't resume agents mid-way, burning more limit for nothing. The user asks Anthropic to audit how limit usage is billed.
