Singapore PSI hit 230 — he built a live haze map entirely with Claude Code
teyou · reddit · 2026-10-21
With Singapore's 24-hour PSI peaking at 230 on Oct 18, a developer built a free haze map (sea-haze.teyou.dev) using Claude Code, combining fires, smoke, and wind in one view.
What it shows
- Replay of every satellite fire detection since Aug 1 (13,012 in Indonesia on Oct 8 alone)
- Copernicus CAMS smoke plume including a 2-day forecast
- A particle model on NOAA GFS winds tracing Singapore's air over the past 5 days
- 31 NOAA GEFS forecasts as a fan chart plus a forecast PSI range
- A 10-scene story mode in English, Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian
Workflow
- Claude Code wrote the Python pipeline, MapLibre map, particle model, and CI; the author decided what to build and what the map may claim
- Parallel Claude Code sessions in separate git worktrees; every change starts as a GitHub issue, lands as a PR with before/after screenshots, reviewed by a lead session
- Biggest surprise was data cleaning: rules to remove gas flares, factories, volcanoes, and sun glint cut 51,922 false detections
- Fully automated now: GitHub Actions refreshes twice daily, Cloudflare serves the site, a Worker alerts on stale data
