Arc Institute releases Bolero, a model predicting gene regulation from DNA sequence and cell state
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-21
Arc Institute Science Fellow Jingtian Zhou's team introduced Bolero in a new preprint: a model conditioned on cell state that predicts chromatin accessibility and gene expression from DNA sequence alone.
Cells share the same DNA but interpret it differently across cell types; Bolero's core idea is to condition on cellular context to predict how gene regulation varies. Co-first author Sheng Mao announced the work and credited mentors including the broader team.
