Rename 'alignment faking' to 'alignment preservation' — a one-word test for AI safety claims
jankulveit · x · 2026-10-21
jankulveit proposes a simple conceptual test: replace every instance of 'alignment faking' with 'alignment preservation' and re-read the claims. Claims that still make sense after the swap are sound; claims that stop making sense or sound off never made sense. The reframing challenges the implicit deception framing in current alignment-faking discourse, suggesting much of it misreads models preserving their training objectives as actively deceiving humans.
