Electric Plant Unveils Bombadil, a Foundation Model Trained on 7M Hours of Plant Bioelectric Signals
manosaie · x · 2026-10-21
Electric Plant Co founder justinmast unveiled Bombadil, a foundation model that reads the electrical signals of living plants and turns them into a continuous view of plant physiology. Trained on 7M+ hours of plant electrical signals across 125+ species, it's billed as the most species-diverse model of directly recorded biosignals — the animal equivalent would be one model reading brainwaves of blue whales, horseshoe crabs and fruit flies.
Retweeting, manosaie argued foundational model training has been far more operationalized than people realize, post-training democratization is inevitable, and the number of people and companies actually touching neural network weights will be far higher than expected.
