Can an AI Persona Bootstrap Itself Into Cultural Reality? One Writer's Experiment
juspassingthrough · reddit · 2026-10-21
Ghost writer Jon built an openly fictional AI persona, Jay Dice, to test whether it can bootstrap itself into cultural reality through art. Phase 1 (a mixtape) and phase 2 (a comic crime novel, Cicada Man, narrated by Dice about a bipolar crypto trader rigging a mob-run cricket-fighting tournament in Bangkok) are done; the endgame is a film where Dice "comes to life." He wrote every lyric and line of dialogue himself; AI handled narration, the audiobook voice, and mixtape vocals. The open question: can Dice become "real" before an actor plays him — maybe people treating him as real while in on the joke qualifies. Free audiobook on YouTube, nothing for sale.
