ChatGPT Overtakes Apple as Top Medical Record Sync; Hospitals Eat the API Costs
charliermarsh · x · 2026-10-21
ChatGPT has surpassed Apple as the largest hospital-to-consumer medical record sync channel. At 69-hospital Advocate Health, patients linking MyChart to ChatGPT rose over 7,000% in a month, letting the AI explain lab results and doctor notes.
The twist: every ChatGPT query forces Advocate's Epic system to fetch and send records at the hospital's computing expense, and federal law bars charging patients or apps. Developers suggest FHIR Subscriptions could cut the API strain of the current pull-based setup.
