Brev founding engineer Tyler Fong joins GPU cloud startup National Compute

Tyler Fong, founding engineer at Brev and later NVIDIA after its 2024 acquisition, is joining GPU cloud company National Compute.
He recounts the pain of the era: on-demand GPU capacity at hyperscalers effectively vanished, leaving independent researchers, two-person startups, and grad students refreshing consoles and hitting "insufficient capacity" errors — at Brev he even hard-coded filters to hide GCP instances that almost never provisioned. A wave of new public clouds around 2023 restored on-demand capacity.
