SEO veteran maps a 3-step path from practice sites to high-competition keywords
gefei55 · x · 2026-10-21
Chinese SEO builder Gefei lays out a stepwise playbook for indie site builders, urging them to drop the "one-site jackpot" mindset and start with practice sites:
- Step 1: Build a site with a unique name to walk the full pipeline — domain, DNS, deployment, analytics, GSC submission, indexing checks — learning skills with zero traffic expectations (you're #1 for an uncompetitive keyword).
- Step 2: Pick a near-zero-competition keyword with a few dozen daily searches, build a site around it, and learn link-building by pushing it onto Google's first page.
- Step 3: Repeat with a few-hundred-searches/day keyword, adding inner pages and backlinks until you hit page one — at which point, in his words, you've left the newbie village and can attack harder keywords with more time and content.
He stresses breaking goals into milestones and metrics, and testing things yourself rather than trusting secondhand advice.
