Mastercard taps Coinbase's x402-based infrastructure to let AI agents pay for digital services
MurrLincoln · x · 2026-10-21
Mastercard is moving into agentic payments, enabling AI agents to pay for digital services. Coinbase provides the agentic payments infrastructure powering each Mastercard agent via Cloudflare, built on the x402 protocol and the Coinbase facilitator.
It's a landmark deployment of x402 — the HTTP-native crypto payment protocol — inside a major card network, signaling that agentic commerce is moving from experiments into mainstream payment infrastructure. Developers building agentic commerce are the explicit target audience.
