Sentry Android SDK is 20-30% faster, saving 6,250 CPU-hours per day
zeeg · x · 2026-10-21
Sentry's team cut Android SDK init time by 20-30% (measured from 8.43.0 to 8.54.0) in one quarter, while reducing memory allocations, fixing leaks and cutting background CPU time by up to 10%. Customer benchmarks confirmed similar startup gains.
The math: across sentry-java, sentry-react-native and sentry-flutter, the SDK handles 4.5 billion app starts daily, 50% cold starts. At 10ms saved per cold start, that's 6,250 hours saved per day for users and CPUs — roughly 2.3 MWh per year, about 1/5 of a US household's annual electricity or 2/3 of an EU one.
Methodology: Perfetto traces to profile the startup critical path, working through customer-reported issues and leaks, with LLMs helping analyze the startup path.
