Letting Codex run a 300k-LOC app for a year spawned 535 copies of index.md
AggressiveCoast190 · reddit · 2026-10-21
A developer let Codex autonomously manage a 300,000+ line web app for a year with one repo, one branch, and minimal oversight. When Codex started failing repeatedly, he audited the project and found over 1.1 million files, with 46,608 duplicated filenames: 535 copies of index.md, 531 LICENSE.md, 519 HANDOFF.md, 185 AGENTS.md, and 490 copies each of ARCHITECTURE/OPERATIONS/DEPLOYMENT docs. He suspects this documentation sprawl is behind his bug problems and asks how others structure repos and .md governance for agent-driven development — a cautionary tale for hands-off agent workflows.
