Open-weights video model + Opus orchestration cuts 15s clip cost to ~$0.14, ~80x cheaper than Seedance

A practical low-cost video pipeline using Claude Opus 5.5 to orchestrate open-source video models, roughly 80x cheaper than SOTA:
- Cost: A 15s 1080p clip via the Seedance API with references costs $11.31. MiniMax released H3 as open weights, and fastH3-omni (a sped-up variant accepting reference images, video, and audio) went fully open — self-hosted on one B200 it renders a 15s clip in 75 seconds at $6.75/hr, about $0.14 per clip (768p, pre-upscale), 48 clips/hour per card.
- Small runs: reactor's hosted fastH3-omni API is $0.18/clip ($0.0125/sec) with no GPU management, still 60x cheaper than Seedance.
- Quality comes from orchestration: No single clip matches Seedance, but an Opus coding agent turns a concept into a storyboard, keeps characters and voices consistent across shots, reviews takes for artifacts, reshoots drifts, and cuts 5–15s clips into one natural scene that comes close.
- When to self-host: GPU bills run hourly, so self-hosting pays off for heavy workloads like films, creative tooling, or longer projects.
