Open models below 4-bit struggle at self-iterating 3D asset generation, HF dev finds
mervenoyann · x · 2026-10-21
- Hugging Face's Merve observes a blind spot for large open models below 4-bit quantization: asking a model to self-iterate on generating 3D assets with three.js — it writes the app code well (with Pi), but asset generation and using itself as a critique loop is very hard.
- The shared diagram shows the pipeline: initial prompt → Pi wrapped on a Llama.cpp server → three.js code + browser render → multi-angle screenshots fed back to Muse Spark 2-bit for visual feedback and revision.
- Muse 2-bit needs extra steering — "too lobotomized" — but it's the only way to make it work on high-end consumer hardware like a Mac Studio.
