arXiv: Are Self-Evolving Agents Continual Learners? Plasticity comes at the cost of stability
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-21
The arXiv page (2610.25858, submitted Oct 19, 2026, Xiaoyin Chen et al.) of the DeepMind paper on whether weight-frozen self-evolving agents are effective continual learners across four drifting task streams. Abstract: self-modifying methods make global edits to shared prompts/workspaces, interfering with unseen tasks and overwriting earlier knowledge; similarity-based retrieval localizes updates but retrieves foreign memories and suffers retrieval collisions when similar queries require conflicting workflows. Current self-evolving agents remain incomplete continual learners.
