OpenAI admits Codex allowance drop was an error fixing Pro 200 downgrades, gives $500 credits
cneuralnetwork · x · 2026-10-21
After a user complained about Codex inefficiency and a sudden allowance drop, OpenAI Support sent an explanation: on October 16 their Codex/Work weekly allowance fell sharply because an error kept the higher allowance from their previous Pro 200 plan after they downgraded to a cheaper tier.
When OpenAI corrected that error to match the current plan, usage already accumulated that week counted against the lower limit — cutting remaining allowance with no warning. OpenAI apologized for the botched transition and added $500 worth of credits (12,500 credits, expiring January 20, 2027) as compensation; the regular weekly allowance now matches the current plan.
