Responding to weekend reports of usage draining faster than expected, OpenAI engineer Thibault Sottiaux confirmed that roughly 40,000 accounts had a usage-limit inconsistency: the limits actually applied didn't match the plans users had selected.
The company says it has individually contacted all affected users, fixed the issue, and will add credits as compensation, alongside a public apology.
