David Manheim: ASI existential risk likely arrives before AI's massive economic impact
davidmanheim · x · 2026-10-21
In a debate with Eli Dourado, Kelsey Tuoc and others, safety researcher David Manheim largely agrees with ESYudkowsky that, short of an AI pause or unexpected capability bottleneck, ASI-level existential risk will likely arrive before AI produces massive economic disruption. He notes economic turnover is slow for consumer products with small price gaps, but far faster for businesses switching physical-goods suppliers and for consumers switching services given bigger discounts.
