PGX: Rust-native disposable Postgres runs 1,000 agent databases in 659MB RAM
JaynitMakwana · x · 2026-10-21
PGX is a Rust implementation of Postgres designed for AI agents: one runtime hosts thousands of real, disposable databases with no containers or heavyweight instances.
- Up to 100x less idle memory; 0.7MB per idle database — 1,000 databases fit in 659MB RAM
- Clones a 674MB database in 85ms
- Up to 8x faster than TS 7.0-adjacent workloads, runs in WASM for browser/Workers, and is slated to join the Oxc toolchain
The author argues per-agent Postgres always felt like overkill due to memory overhead, and PGX makes "one database per agent, deleted when done" a practical default for agent architectures.
