What rules would you need to trust an agent with write access? A builder's draft framework
Fresh_Spread_9223 · reddit · 2026-10-21
A builder (whose team makes an external layer that checks every agent tool call against your rules before execution) is crowdsourcing feedback on their draft rule model before building further. Draft rule types include:
- Spend caps per action, per recipient, and per time window
- Any new recipient or counterparty requires a human
- Scoping which tables, fields, or customer segments an agent can touch
- Per-agent allowlists of tools and actions
- Unknown tool or unknown parameter means deny, not ignore
- Risk-differentiated failure: reads fail open, money movement fails closed
They ask: which rules can't scoped credentials alone express? What rule is missing? What would you need before letting an outside layer sit in front of production calls?
