Anthropic adds third-party evaluators and AI-pace policy goals to Frontier Safety Roadmap
ShakeelHashim · x · 2026-10-20
Anthropic updated its Frontier Safety Roadmap with two new policy goals:
- Policy proposal on embedded third-party evaluators (due Dec 15, 2026): independent evaluators will get deeper access to models and internal information than external evaluators typically have, while preserving independence; the proposal will cover funding, required access, and independence safeguards
- Policy framework targeting the pace of AI development (due Jan 15, 2027): since AI R&D automation could outpace governance, "speed itself could become an important risk factor"; Anthropic will publish a proposal or explain why not
The roadmap spans security, safeguards, alignment, and policy, with public goals serving as a company-wide "forcing function" and an invitation for other developers to publish their own.
