No kings, just a few techno lords: AI platforms as the new means of production
bakraofwallstreet · reddit · 2026-10-20
A Reddit post argues that if critical work keeps relying on cloud-served AI models, platforms will eventually control the means of production. While most debate focuses on whether AI will replace workers at scale, the author asks what happens after: the handful of companies owning that AI would accrue economic power feudal lords could only dream of. AI platforms are becoming the channel through which we work and generate value, much as social media once was — and it's not hard to imagine Time naming Claude its person of the year.
