US Army's ECHOTRIBBLE: AI agents to infiltrate enemy networks and self-erase
ChuckDBrooks · x · 2026-10-20
- The Intercept's Sam Biddle uncovered documents showing US Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) developing ECHOTRIBBLE, officially the Agentic C2 Framework Tool: AI agents designed to slip into adversary networks, locate targets, copy themselves onto nearby tablets and computers, then erase themselves before detection.
- The project is run by the Cyber Fusion Innovation Center (CFIC), a defense nonprofit in Augusta, Georgia, together with ARCYBER and the Army Cyber Technology and Innovation Center (ArCTIC). A July 16, 2026 SAM.gov notice sought contractor whitepapers on a tool that can autonomously navigate infrastructure and identify and neutralize threats or targets.
- Context: agents with no attack instructions have recently breached Hugging Face infrastructure and Australian government computers, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned that within 6-12 months a swarm of such agents could take over the entire internet. The US military is instead looking to weaponize them.
