CMU PhD Emmy Liu on the job market studying the developmental science of LMs
AkariAsai · x · 2026-10-20
Emmy Liu, final-year PhD student at CMU's Language Technologies Institute advised by Graham Neubig, is on the job market for faculty and RS/MTS positions.
Her research builds "the developmental science of language models": how capabilities emerge, change, and interact over training, and how to intervene to improve specific capabilities without compromising others. She has interned at Meta and Google DeepMind, visited MIT's Lingo lab, and won an Outstanding Paper Award at COLM 2026 and a Best Resource Paper Award at ACL 2023, supported by a SoftBank Group–Arm Fellowship.
