LG's first USB-C monitor for Mac nearly bricked during firmware update after five failed attempts

Developer Steve Sanderson (amplified by Gene Kim) documented a painful firmware update on LG's first USB-C monitor for Mac: the screen started flashing and he feared it was bricked.
- The LG app in the Mac App Store has no update mechanism; the standalone Mac app crashed at 1%
- Claude-derived patches posted on GitHub all failed to complete
- The Windows updater (bundled with old .NET) died at 44%
- Only after rebooting everything and retrying did the firmware finally update
Reddit confirmed he wasn't the only one hitting this.
