Amazon's TorchNeuron runs PyTorch on Trainium with just a device string change
lemire · x · 2026-10-20
Trainium instances on AWS cost roughly half of Nvidia instances with somewhat less compute; Amazon claims Trainium is 30% cheaper overall. Its new native PyTorch backend TorchNeuron (beta) lets existing code move to Trainium by simply changing the device string to .to('neuron'). Trainium chips are available on EC2, and the code is open source.
