Sequencing and structure prediction are solved; biomolecular function prediction remains the frontier
FrankNoeBerlin · x · 2026-10-20
Frank Noe shares a roadmap of scalable techniques in molecular biology: sequencing (1980 DNA sequencing, 2022 next-gen sequencing) and structure prediction (2024 protein structure prediction) are solved, but scalable biomolecular function prediction remains unsolved.
The open problem: how biomolecules change shape, bind and interact, and how this leads to biological function and disease. His group's mission is to build quantitative methods that can scale to the genome.
