Princeton paper: combining specialized agents across developers hits 70% on GAIA

The arXiv paper "The Wealth of Agents: Scaling Agentic AI Across Developers" (Princeton; Austin W. Hanjie, Carlos E. Jimenez, et al.) proposes multi-developer agentic systems (MDAs) as a new scaling axis.
Key findings:
- On GAIA, a population of specialized developers whose individual agents don't exceed 35% accuracy reaches 70% when combined into an MDA
- That MDA scores 12 percentage points above the median general-purpose single-developer system (SDA) built with several times each specialist's budget
- Thesis: today's agentic systems are built by single developers, so teams rebuild the same basic skills, limiting scale
- Theoretical models show MDAs incentivize specialization and more efficient use of aggregated developer resources
The authors frame it as wealth accumulation: pooled specialized capability can push frontier capability beyond any individual developer's reach.
