Lawyers are Claude's #1 power users as legal usage grows 108x — how to build your own legal team with it
rubenhassid · x · 2026-10-20
Ruben Hassid breaks down how to turn Claude into a personal legal team, no lawyer required.
- Legal jumped on Claude earliest: by May it was the #1 power-user profession with 3x the usage of any other job. The chart shows weekly active enterprise legal users up 108x since February — far outpacing sales (41x), recruiting (41x), marketing (26x), and engineering (5x). US lawyers bill $349/hour on average and still let AI do the first read.
- Anthropic's legal plugins (released in May) are included in the existing $20/$100 Claude plans. The contracts plugin reads NDAs and deals, rates them green/yellow/red, and writes the changes to request — in the demo it caught an NDA whose past-dated Effective Date shrank the protection window from 2 years to 18 months.
- Setup targets non-lawyers too: pick your role (with/without counsel), connect Google Drive to pull agreements, and optionally Slack for renewal alerts. With 1 in 4 small business owners signing contracts as-is, the author argues everyone should run AI triage before signing.
