VoiceManager open-sources a low-latency local streaming STT/TTS server for voice agents
HockeyDadNinja · reddit · 2026-10-20
A developer released HermesConsole, a demo of VoiceManager: an MIT-licensed, low-latency local streaming speech-to-speech server running over a single WebSocket, defaulting to an audio.cpp sidecar with Nemotron ASR and Breeze TTS 2.
Highlights:
- Wake word ("hey computer") runs on a tablet; replies stream back sentence by sentence
- Turn-based conversations with barge-in support (off by default due to tricky echo cancellation)
- Sessions keep context across turns; images/markdown render under replies; tool calls go back to the app (volume control, calculator demo)
- Ships with client integration docs, a Python client, and a Kotlin console app as reference
A solid starting point for adding local voice to your own agent. Code on GitHub.
