AGI researcher: fiction trains people to wrongly assume humans will "find a way"
danfaggella · x · 2026-10-20
danfaggella argues fiction is a net detriment to AGI-risk reasoning. Once AGI exists, humans stop being the protagonist of Earth's story; but entertainment sold to humans must keep humans as leads, so we internalize narratives of last-minute human victory. Hence the reflex "humans are smart, we'll find a way" — yet that only ever happened on screen, against foes no smarter than ourselves, never against entities as far beyond us as we are beyond field mice.
