Industry vet Jon Kimmich notes this Steam Next Fest features as many games as were released in the entire year of 2018.
Chart data (compiled from GameDiscoverCo, PC Gamer and others) shows demo counts climbing from 500 in 2020 to 2,860 by late 2024, hovering at 2,300–3,500 through 2025, then spiking to 8,100 — a curve many read as a sign of AI-lowered development barriers flooding Steam with demos.
