Claude Desktop needs 3 clicks to change effort — dev builds a 2-keystroke picker demo
stefansimik · reddit · 2026-10-20
A Reddit user complains that the latest Claude Desktop update made switching effort levels take 3 clicks instead of 1, and built a keyboard-first interactive demo as a proposal.
- One shortcut (Cmd+Shift+E, Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows) opens a picker; a letter selects the model (S for Sonnet), a number selects effort (2 for Medium), and S2 does Sonnet + Medium in one go.
- Arrow keys browse, Enter confirms, Esc cancels — no mouse needed.
- A playable artifact is live, and the author is rallying 👍 on a GitHub issue to push the feature upstream.
