Pilot Light lets MacBook run Claude Code lid-closed at 4.8W, 6h battery becomes 20h+
CyrisXD · reddit · 2026-10-20
A developer released Pilot Light, a free MIT-licensed macOS tool (beta) that keeps Claude Code running after you close the lid.
- With the lid open, a MacBook idles at 16.7W; Pilot Light dims the screen, enables Low Power Mode, and drops draw to 4.8W or less, extending battery life from 6 hours to 20+ hours.
- Measured 2.3W while Claude Code built a website and tested every feature through a headless Playwright browser.
- Safety fallbacks: lets the Mac sleep if it gets seriously hot in a bag or battery drops below a set limit, restoring state on reopen.
- No tracking, telemetry, or accounts; so far only tested on an M5 Max.
