Gemini web adds custom MCP server connections with user auth, free tier included
moviegroupies · reddit · 2026-10-20
A Reddit user reports Gemini web (free tier) now supports connecting to well-behaved custom MCP servers with user authentication. The UI adds a "Connect to an MCP server" dialog where you paste the server URL, with a warning that custom apps aren't reviewed by Google.
Caveat: Gemini doesn't support CIMD yet, so you must supply a client id manually (e.g. geminimoviegroupiesclient). The author verified the full flow against their own app's MCP endpoint.
