Stanford Prof Calls Out Goodfire: VUS Upgrade Evidence Mostly Unrelated to EVEE
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-20
Stanford professor Anshul Kundaje publicly accused Goodfire of overstating the role of its EVEE tool in upgrading a variant of uncertain significance (VUS). Citing the NCBI entry, he argues the classification upgrade was driven primarily by published genetic associations and an established biological mechanism — not EVEE. He estimates 9 of 10 supporting facts have nothing to do with EVEE, and claims an LLM mining the literature alone would nominate many VUSs for upgraded status. Goodfire researcher RyoYbioinfo asked which claims were overblown; Kundaje replied simply: "Be honest."
